I always enjoyed camping growing up, made a few trips to Colorado, had fun... But I didn't truly become serious about the outdoors until I was wrapping up college. I grew tired of thinking that Illinois was all cornfields, and began searching for local outdoor adventures. That killed off interests in canoeing, kayaking, backpacking, and overall camping. My favorite outdoor activity is to go boat camping in remote locations. Fortunately, I live within an hour drive of 4 of Illinois's larger rivers, and 3 hour drive of roughly a dozen different rivers.
